Nested between the A40 trunk road and a dismantled railway line is the large village of Wheatley, most of Wheatley runs parallel with the A40 and the high street is quite interesting with is mix of old and new houses and shops.
Wheatley manor house is also in the high street, it was built in 1601 and the date stone on the front elevation shows the name of the original owner (Abraham Archadale) On Church Road you can find the parish church (The Church of St Mary The Virgin) it was originally built in the 8th century but it is said to have been rebuilt because the Bishop of Oxford (Samuel Wilberforce) didn't like it.
Wheatley has its own Facebook page which can be found by clicking the following link https://m.facebook.com/Wheatleyvillage You can find plenty of photos throughout the year along with news and events.
Typically, Wheatley isn’t too far from Oxford and its wealth of shopping, bars, restaurants, historical buildings and its attractions.
